Complex goals: meaningful missions that require managing complexity, change, vulnerability, and many iterations to successfully achieve them. (1)
Complex goals require manging the complexity of the many knowns, unknowns and uncertainties (impacting elements) to achieve complex goals.
Impacting element: people, reality, and activity variables that must be identified, understood, addressed, and managed in order to achieve a mission or an outcome. (2)
Complex goals are essentially complex systems. These factors impact the launch of a new product, getting a book published, or getting out of personal debt. We may call people complex systems as we each have many variables that contribute to our unpredictability. Since most complex goals involve multiple people, they become exponentially more complex.
