What is Managing Complexity?

It is manging the complexity of the many knowns, unknowns and uncertainties to achieve complex goals.

If you have failed to achieve a complex goal, one or more of these factors may have contributed: (1)

  • Too many variables for logic and analogy reasoning methods
  • Unknown variables that are difficult to identify
  • Uncertain variables that are difficult to predict how they will act, react, or interact
  • Unpredictable outcomes due to change and combination effects of variables
  • Adaptive overall systems that evolve how they operate over time

Managing complexity requires understaning the unpredictability of many impacting elements (known and unknown) and strategies operating, reacting, and interacting in both certain and uncertain ways.
